The Art of Persuasion
Former Texas Governor Ann Richards. Broadcasting pioneer Edward R. Murrow. Academy Award–winning actor Spencer Tracy. These are just a few of the prominent Americans who participated in speech and debate during their college careers as members of Pi Kappa Delta, the national speech and debate society now celebrating a hundred years of helping to educate students, broaden minds, and transform lives.
Robert Marshall Wells, Ph.D., is an associate professor of communication at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) in Washington State. Since joining the PLU faculty in 2003, Wells has shared with his students the skills and experiences he acquired during a thirty-year career in mass media, including positions in public relations, advertising, television, and print journalism. An avid lover of film, Wells has spent a year-long sabbatical living in Durham, studying at the Center for Documentary Studies, and learning how to chronicle the human condition in new, exciting, and different ways.
